About EdinburghTravel.com

An independent guide to one city, written to be useful.

EdinburghTravel.com exists to answer the questions people actually ask before they visit Edinburgh: what to see, what to book, how long to stay, when to come, where to sleep and how to get about.

What we cover

The whole city: the Old Town and the New Town, the hills, the villages along the Water of Leith, and Leith itself — together with the festivals that shape its year and the day trips that start from it. Each of the main sights has its own guide, and the practical pages cover transport, seasons, itineraries and accommodation.

How we work

Practical details are checked against official sources — Historic Environment Scotland, the Royal Collection Trust, National Museums and National Galleries Scotland, Lothian Buses, Edinburgh Trams and the City of Edinburgh Council — and reviewed regularly. Tour ratings and review counts come directly from GetYourGuide; hotel information from Trip.com. Where something is liable to change, such as opening days, festival programmes or the visitor levy, we say so and tell you where to check.

We do not print exact ticket prices for attractions, because they change; we link to live prices instead. We are not affiliated with any of the attractions or public bodies mentioned.

How the site is funded

The guide is free to read. When you book a tour or a hotel through our links we may earn a commission, at no cost to you. That never decides what we recommend — see our affiliate disclosure.
